Join us on an 19 day tour from the most easterly point in Australia (Byron Bay) to the most westerly (Steep Point). This fully inclusive trip is a mixture of motel and camping and takes us through the Centre of Australia. Join us for this unique opportunity.

Have you got a 4wd that you would like to put through its paces?
We will give you peace of mind traveling in a convoy of vehicles with competent guides, who are great bush mechanics. Learn about your vehicle’s capabilities, absorb some get-out-of-trouble tricks and pick up some great hints for touring meals and campfire cooking.
One of the extra features of our Tagalong option is that we want to make our groups all inclusive, so we include the following

Itinerary
DAY 1
Fly into Brisbane to be met by your welcoming tour guides and transferred to Byron Bay for our first night together. Get to know your fellow passengers at dinner and forge connections that will bind the group throughout the trip.

DAY 2
We arise early to enjoy a champagne breakfast and a beautiful sunrise at Cape Byron Lighthouse, Australia’s most easterly point. From there it’s a trip on the Solar Express, the world’s first solar train, before having a free afternoon in town and a return to our overnight accommodation.

DAY 3
Today we travel to Moree, Australia’s Artesian Spa Capital. From the coastal plains to the inland region of New England, we appreciate the beautiful scenery. Along the route we pass through the town of Tenterfield, made famous by the Peter Allen song ‘Tenterfield Saddler’ and view the original shop.Upon arrival at Moree there is the opportunity to soak in the healthful, mineral-rich rejuvenating waters of the natural Artesian Basin.

DAY 4
Leaving behind the quaint town of Moree, we travel over the Kamilaroi Highway via historic Brewarinna, to the town of Bourke, considered the ‘gateway to the outback’. Nestled on the banks of the Darling River, Bourke exudes a timeless charm, with its heritage buildings and museums that offer a glimpse into its storied past. Time to explore the back of Bourke Exhibition centre and enjoy the interactive stories of the inland sea, the wool history, the Riverboats and much more.

DAY 5
Today we have a few hours on the road to cover the distance between Bourke and Cameron’s Corner. We travel through the remote town of Tibooburra, an area visited both by Charles Sturt on his 1844 attempt to traverse the continent and Bourke and Wills in 1866, on their ill-fated expedition.Our stop at the end of the day, Cameron’s Corner, is the geodetic point at which the states of Queensland, New South Wales and South Australia meet.

DAY 6
This morning we continue on into South Australia. Our destination tonight is Marree, an old railway town at the junction of the Oodnadatta and Birdsville Tracks. Along the way we pass by historic old railway sidings and towns, including the partially restored Farina.
There is the opportunity to take a scenic flight over Lake Eyre, either tonight or tomorrow if arranged at time of tour booking.

DAY 7
We travel along the Oodnadatta Track to the historic town of William Creek, first visited by the explorer John McDowell Stuart, and once an important point on the Ghan railway line. More contemporary importance was placed upon it as a staging post for the Woomera Atomic Testing Area. From there its on to Coober Pedy, the unique opal mining town where a large part of the infrastructure is underground.

DAY 8
Time for a more relaxing day. A tour round Coober Pedy, the chance to do some opal fossicking, a visit to an Opal Mine and Museum and a picnic sunset dinner at Kanku Breakaways Conservation Park.

DAY 9
On the road again and we’re heading into the Northern Territory. Stopping at Marla Bore, and then onwards, passing through some stark desert scenery before arriving at our overnight stay.

DAY 10
We head to Uluru today and our stay at Yulara Village. Arriving around lunchtime gives us the afternoon to explore the Rock and the Cultural Centre before an evening display at the Field of Lights.

DAY 11
Travelling from Yulara, we explore the wonder of Kata Tjuta (the Olgas) before travelling across the border into WA through the Petermann Ranges. Travelling along the Great Central Road we take in Lassiter’s Cave (a resting place of that famous gold explorer and his lost gold reef) and one of the plaques honouring Len Beadell. We travel a small portion of Len’s Gunbarrell Highway today.

DAY 12
Continuing west from Warburton on the Outback Way we relish the remote heart of the country. Stopping at gnamma holes and scenic views we can appreciate this truly remote part of Australia.
Tonight another bush camp and enjoying sitting around the campfire.

DAY 13
We continue travelling along the Great Central Road, taking in historic points of European exploration and Aboriginal cultural heritage. Passing through the town of Laverton, we head onto Leonora, our overnight stop.

DAY 14
Today we are journeying through the gold mining areas of Leonora and Leinster. We take a loop through the Sandstone heritage circuit before ending up on the Great Northern Highway.

DAY 15
Exploring the old Wool Wagon Trails takes us back to a time when these routes were the mainstay of outback Australia. Experiencing the modern day conditions of an environment harsh enough enough to drive away most people gives us an appreciation of those who came before us.

DAY 16
Via the Old Butcher’s Track and the outback pathways we head into Hamelin. This afternoon we take a tour of the Old Telegraph Station and view the stromatolites, the oldest living fossils on earth.

DAY 17
An exciting day for us as we head out to Steep Point, the most easterly mainland point of Australia. We’ve made it and we have a champagne picnic supper to celebrate as we watch the sun set into the Indian Ocean.

DAY 18
We’ve said goodbye to the dirt roads and now it’s a run down the coast, ending up in the little fishing time of Dongara. Here we have our farewell dinner and reminisce about the trip.

A shorter drive today before we end up in the Perth metro area and drop you home, with a wealth of memories.
