New 7 Day short Adventure Tour

Join us for a 7 day tour as we travel the Anne Beadell Highway and the Connie Sue Highway out to the Ilkurlka Community on the SA Border and return.

 Experience some of the history of Australia’s last great explorer Len Beadell as we travel through the central desert along the roads named for his wife and daughter.  We travel to the community of Ilkurlka just short of the SA border and then head south to Rawlina before heading back to Kalgoorlie.

Itinerary

 Day 1

Perth to Kalgoorlie or Kojonup to Kalgoorlie

Travel along the Golden Pipeline Route, via a lunch stop in Southern Cross, on to our first night’s accommodation in Kalgoorlie. Meet your fellow travellers at a welcome dinner and have a brief talk about expectations and requirements.

Day 2

 

Kalgoorlie to Yeo

Leaving Kalgoorlie, we follow the bitumen today as we travel through the historic mining towns of the Goldfields region to Laverton.

We pay a visit to the Explorer’s Hall of Fame in Laverton before heading out along the Anne Beadell Highway.

Day 3

 

Yeo Lakes to Neale Junction.


Today we spend the full day exploring the Anne Beadell. Take in the spectacular views from Bishop Riley’s Pulpit along the way.

Day 4

 

Neale Junction to Ilkurlka.

Today we examine some interesting gnamma holes and the remains of an old airfield.
Refueling time at Ilkurlka. The most eastern part of the Anne Beadell that we can travel on this trip.

Day 5

Ilkurlka to Rawlinna

Today we head back West and then head South on the Connie Sue Hwy, as we make our way towards Rawlinna  station.

Day 6

Rawlinna to Norseman

Today we travel along some station tracks as we make our way towards the Eyre Hwy and the Town of Norseman

Norseman to Perth

Back on the dirt we head west to Hyden, before we again join the Bitumen roads for our run back to Perth

Anne Beadell Highway

Join us  on a 16 day Perth to Adelaide 4 wheel drive adventure, exploring the Anne Beadell Highway from Laverton to Coober Pedy.

Itinerary

Day One

Perth to Coolgardie

Travel along the Golden Pipeline Route, via a lunch stop in Southern Cross, to our first night’s accommodation in Coolgardie. Meet your fellow travellers at a welcome dinner and have a brief talk about expectations and requirements.

Day 2

Coolgardie to Laverton

We have a quick stop in Kalgoorlie, stocking up on any last minute forgotten items.  

Still on the bitumen today as we travel through the historic mining towns of the Goldfields region.

In the afternoon we pay a visit to the Explorer’s Hall of Fame in Laverton before enjoying the camping facilities at the Caravan Park.

Day 3

 Laverton to Yeo Lakes Nature Reserve. 

Take in White Cliffs and Salvation Well on the first serious day of this Australian outback adventure tour.

Day 4

 Yeo Lakes to Neale Junction.

Take in the spectacular views from Bishop Riley’s Pulpit along the way.

Day 5

Neale Junction to Ilkurka.

Today we examine some interesting gnamma holes and the remains of an old airfield.

Day 6

 Ilkurka to South Australian Border

Onwards down the track. Notable stopping points for today include Djindugara, an extremely culturally significant gnamma hole, and the site of Len Beadell’s original plaque at the border.

Day 7

 SA Border to Vokes Hill Corner

We pass through sandy desert and many dunes, with numerous clumps of beautiful black desert oak. Vokes Hill was named in 1901 by explorer Richard Maurice, after his cook on the expedition.

Day 8

 Vokes Hill to Emu Junction.

The track now enters some of the most beautiful countryside of the Great Victoria Desert, within the Mamungari Conservation Park.

We visit  Emu Claypan, the landing strip for equipment and personnel for the atomic testing done in this region.

Day 9

 Emu Junction to Tallaringa Well.

We visit Ground Zero, and Totems 1 and 2, where the atomic bombs were located on steel towers (NB this area is safe to visit, without hazardous levels of radiation).

We to head to Tallaringa Well, of past immense importance to the migratory aboriginals of the area.

Day 10

 Tallaringa Well to Coober Pedy

We pass by the Dog Fence, the longest fence in the world, and take a diversion to what Len Beadell called ‘Aboriginal Stonehenge’, a long line of deliberately placed rocks, whose meaning is still not known.

We finish our travels on the Anne Beadell Highway and head to Coober Pedy, real beds and showers!

Day 11

 Coober Pedy

Time for a re-group, re-stock and repair day.

We take a town tour, an opal mine tour and you have the opportunity to have a relaxed lunch and afternoon. Maybe try your hand at Opal fossicking on the public noodling heaps!

Day 12

Coober Pedy to Roxby Downs, via Woomera.

The Woomera Range Centre is a highly specialised ADF test and evaluation capability operated by the RAAF for the purposes of testing war material. We aren’t permitted onto the Rocket Range, but spend time visiting the excellent Rocket Range museums and the Rocket Park, in the Village area.

Onto the mining town of Roxby Downs, originally built to support the Olympic Dam Project.

Day 13

 Roxby Downs to Port Augusta

We start this morning with a two hour surface tour of Olympic Dam, if available (tour days vary).

Down the bitumen, via the impressive series of inland lagoons, to Port Augusta.

Day 14

 Port Augusta to Adelaide

Our day starts with a visit to the Wadlata Centre and a journey through the amazing Tunnel of Time.

Then onto Adelaide and our last night, with a special farewell dinner.

Day 15

 Adelaide 

A free morning around town, then it is departure time for everybody. We say our sad farewells, before heading off home.
